St Kitts and Nevis students could head to Taiwan for vocational and technical training, following a visit to the country by St Kitts Education Minister Nigel Carty.
The Minister, who visited Taipei last week, held talks with Taiwanese Education Minister Dr Wei-Ling Chiang and visited with some Kittitian and Nevisian students already studying in the country.
Carty was joined by a delegate including Permanent Secretary Ione Liburd-Willet and St Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to Taiwan.
“We have identified a gap in our educational system as it relates to vocational and technical training, and would wish to explore the possibility of developing partnerships with your country to assist us in developing that sector, through scholarships or teacher training or through any other method that would be mutually beneficial,” Carty told the Education Minister.
According to Chiang, his Ministry is ready assist in whatever manner both sides deem appropriate, including the award of more scholarships to students from St Kitts and Nevis.
Carty also held talks with President Yao of the National Taipei University of Technology, who was reportedly enthusiastic about collaborating with the Education Ministry.
He also mentioned the possibility of training teachers in Taiwan.
