Dominican Republic Attorney General Radhames Jimenez met Thursday with Organization of American States Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza to discuss penitentiary policies in the region.
The two sides stressed the need to further expand cooperation in penitentiary and prison policies in the framework of commitments assumed at the Meetings of Ministers of Justice or of Ministers or Atttorneys General of the Americas.
At the talks, which were held at OAS Headquarters in Washington, DC, Jimenez explained the process the Dominican Republic has implemented to advance and strengthen the country’s capacities in prison management under its New Prison Management Model.
Insulza also reiterated his interest in improving the management of overcrowding in prisons in the region, along with forensic investigation, reducing the cycle of crime and the strengthening of judicial systems.
The OAS will host the Third Meeting of Officials Responsible for the Penitentiary and Prison Policies that will take place in July in Washington.
