Haitian President Michel Martelly has been discharged from his Miami-area hospital, the National Palace announced today.

Martelly left the hospital Wednesday night after making “many advances” in the process of recovery from what was determined to have been a pulmonary embolism.

The President had arrived in Miami Monday for tests after suffering what were, at the time, termed “postoperative complications” following surgery on his right shoulder.

The discharge was made on the request of his doctors, according to Martelly’s spokesperson.

The surgery prevented him from attending the Sixth Summit of the Americas in Cartagena last weekend. Prime Minister-Designate Laurent Lamothe represented Haiti at the summit in his place.

Martelly said he was “committed” to keeping the population informed of his health status going forward.
