Haiti’s President Michel Martelly was advised by doctors to return to Miami Monday for medical monitoring due to postoperative complications from his shoulder surgery earlier this month.

The National Palace said it would keep the public informed of his health status.

Martelly left Haiti on April 4 for Miami to have arthroscopic surgery performed on a troublesome right shoulder.

He underwent what his office called “successful” surgery on the shoulder later that week.

The surgery prevented Martelly from making the trip to Cartagena for the Sixth Summit of the Americas, where he was represented by Prime Minister-Designate Laurent Lamothe.

Martelly was able to receive Mexican President Felipe Calderon for a visit to Port-au-Prince last week, with his arm in a sling.
