A truck overturned and caused the deaths of at least 27 people on a highway near the town of Petit-Goave in Haiti Saturday.

The truck, which was carrying traders and commercial goods, overturned, and wounded at least 30.

Haitian President Michel Martelly, calling it a “terrible” accident, said he deplored the tragedy and presented his sympathies to its victims.

The crash occurred on the eve of Easter, on Highway #2 at the height of Morne Tapion.

Martelly said he would renew his commitment to correcting a set of practices that continue to harm communities.
