The Dominican Republic’s National Police has opened a new station in Las Galeras.
The station comes in part to respond to a surge in development and tourism in the area, creating the need for the new facility.
Major General Jose Armando Polanco Gomez, the chief of the National Police, said that tourism would be protected by the new station in Las Galeras, which is in the Samana region.
Gomez was on hand to inaugurate the new station at a ceremony which included the contribution of police equipment, including bulletproof vests and ammunition, to the station.
The new station follows several others that have recently opened across the Dominican Republic, including in La Isabela, Moca, San Jose de Ocoa and Miches.
The country has also refurbished police facilities in Villa Maria and in Santo Domingo, among other locations.
