The British Virgin Islands is sending 16 athletes to April’s CARIFTA games in Bermuda, the largest delegation the country has sent since the first time it competed in 1976.

The team includes nine athletes with previous CARIFTA experience, with the bulk of athletes in the Under-17 Division, which includes nine athletes, eight of whom are girls.

BVI Athletics Association officials called this year’s class the strongest U17 Girls team it had ever assembled, because of its range of competitors, from hurls and sprinting to mid-distance performers.

The delegation was presented by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports in a ceremony on Friday.
