The Board of Directors of the West Indies Players’ Association announced the resignation of Dinanath Ramnarine as the group’s President and CEO on Monday.
The move is effective March 31.
“Mr Ramnarine shared last year that 2012 would be his last year with the organization,” said Board Secretary Andrew Richardson. “He has now completed a perfect decade. We wish to recognise that he has served meritoriously over those 10 years.”
A native of Trinidad, Ramnarine retired from cricket in 2002.
Michael Hall will act as WIPA’s interim CEO. Ramnarine has agreed to act in an advisory capacity to assist with the transition.
Ramnarine assumed the position in 2002. He pushed for the West Indies Cricket Board to enter into a formal collective bargaining agreement for players, and negotiated the largest West Indian cricketer pay increase in history.
“It is truly a depressing day for West Indian cricket to see Mr Ramnarine depart,” said Wavell Hinds, who will assume the presidency until the group’s annual general meeting later this year. “We were well advised that this day will come but hoped it would never materialize.”
