Haitian President Michel Martelly will meet with Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez on Monday a part of an official visit to the country, the National Palace announced Friday.

Martelly will be joined by a Haitian delegation including Prime Minister-Designate Laurent Lamothe and Ministers Thierry Mayard-Paul (Interior), Stephanie Villedrouin (Tourism), Joseph Ronald Toussaint (Environment) and Daniel Supplice (Haitians Living Abroad) and Hebert Docteur (Agriculture).

The meetings will focus on the bilateral Haitian-Dominican commission. The two countries plan to sign a Joint Declaration, followed by two other agreements.

Lamothe, who remains the country’s Foreign Minister, and Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, will sign the pacts.

Martelly said he was committed to defending the interests of the Haitian people and ensuring that relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic were based on “mutual respect.”

Martelly will also meet with the Haitian Embassy in the Dominican Republic during the visit, with representatives of Haitian students.

The visit will conclude Monday night, when he will return to Haiti.

The President’s invitation to visit the Dominican Republic was extended in February, when a delegation led by Troncoso met with Martelly in Port-au-Prince.
