There is “no doubt about the future of the Caribbean Community,” according to Montserrat Premier Reuben Meade, who was speaking following his visit to the Heads of Government meeting in Paramaribo last week.

The Premier said the meetings in Suriname were “very positive,” and that leaders were in agreement over the measures needed to reform CARICOM.

Montserrat is a full member of CARICOM.

According to Meade, the Heads of Government were of the firm view that the integration movement has continued to make great strides, and will continue to do so.

Montserrat will meet with another regional body on Wednesday, when OECS Director General Dr Len Ishmael will visit.

Ishmael will meet with Meade and members of the Legislative Assembly on the Economic Union Treaty, which Montserrat has not yet signed, although the United Kingdom granted the entrustment for Montserrat to sign on in December of last year.

Montserrat will reportedly do so once the Economic Union Treaty Bill has been passed by the Legislative Assembly.
