The government of Antigua and Barbuda is planning to create a new Sports Village as the country seeks to position itself as a sporting destination.

The Antigua and Barbuda Sports Village will be located near the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, and could include between 10 and 15 facilities.

“We are now counting down in terms of the construction of what is going to be the Antigua and Barbuda Sports Village,” said Minister Winston Williams, Ministry of State in the Ministry of Sports, said in a radio interview.

Williams said the government had already conducted its first meeting with one of the investors, and was now waiting for the process to move forward.

Earlier this month, the country celebrated the 60th birthday of Sir Viv, one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
