China and the Organization of American States are looking at new options to further collaborate on projects and programmes in Latin America and the Caribbean.

OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza met this week with Yang Wanming, General Director of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of China’s Ministry of Foreign Relations in Washington.

China and the OAS began their bilateral collaboration in OAS, the year China became a permanent observer at the regional body.

“We value the commitment made by China since then, your presence and willingness to work with us in obtaining common goals for the continent,” Insulza said.

Yang was joined by Hu Lan and Sun Yi, directors of for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Foreign Ministry.

“The OAS is a good partner for China to have in order to achieve its goals of making bonds with the Hemisphere,” Yang said, noting the importance China grants to the region.
