Haitian President Michel Martelly and Foreign Minister Laurent Lamothe are meeting Wednesday with Dominican Republic Chancellor Carlos Morales Troncoso in Port-au-Prince.

The two sides will talk about the agenda for the Haitian-Dominican Joint Bilateral Commission, which will be developed in the coming months.

During the brief 10-hour stay, Morales is also participating in a reception commemorating the 168th anniversary of the Dominican Republic’s independence at its embassy in Haiti.

Troncoso is holding the talks with Martelly at the National Palace, and later with Lamothe at a workshop aimed at defining priorities in trade and investment, border security, health, education and other issues.

The visit follows UN Haiti Chief Mariano Fernandez’ visit to the Dominican Republic last week.
