Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez met Tuesday in Santo Domingo with Mariano Fernandez, chief of MINUSTAH, the UN mission in Haiti.

Fernandez was accompanied by Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso, along with the Dominican Republic Ambassador to Haiti Ruben Silie.

They were also joined by Enzo Di Taranto, MINUSTAH’s head of communications.

According to Fernandez, it was a courtesy visit as he stays in Santo Domingo for a few days.

Fernandez said he also enjoyed a close relationship Silie.

“We are very interested in the success of Haitian-Dominican cooperation,” the MINUSTAH chief said.

A major portion of the discussions focused on the University Roi Henri Christophe, which was built by the Dominican Republic in the Haitian town of Limonade.

Fernandez called the project a “great work of international cooperation.”
