Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez met Friday with several judges of the Central American Court of Justice.
The President was joined by Francisco Dario Lobo Lara, the court’s president, along with Judges Carlos Guerra Gayarbo and Ricardo Acevedo Peralta in Santo Domingo.
Fernandez was accompanied at the meeting by Cesar Pina Toribio, Minister for the Presidency, and legal consultant Abel Rodriguez del Orbe.
Lara Lobo was one of the founders of the CACJ, and is also a former Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations for Honduras.
The Central American Court of Justice, which is based in Managua, Nicaragua, is the principal judicial organ of the Central American Integration System (SICA). It was founded in 1994.
The Dominican Republic, which is an associate member of SICA, has not acceded to the court.
In August, CARICOM and SICA reaffirmed their ties in a meeting in El Salvador, citing several successful commercial ventures between the two economic movements.
