Ambassador Camillo Gonsalves, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been holding talks with officials from Taiwan to discuss relations between the two states.

According to Gonsalves, the talks focused on work on the country’s international airport project and other bilateral matters.

The meetings follow a similar visit to Australia, which focused on the potential for university scholarships for Vincentians.

St Vincent’s Argyle International Airport project is slated for completion in 2013.

Taiwan promised a substantial amount of support to the airport plan, beginning with a Memorandum of Understanding in 2006 that pledged a grant of $15 million and a soft loan of $10 million for the project.

It has since made several other grants to the project.
