Signaling what the government called a new era in road infrastructure, the Dominican Republic today announced it would launch construction of a new mountain highway.

The project will link the Cibao region with the southern portion of the Dominican Republic.

The news follows the inauguration today of a $100 million highway linking the towns of Constanza and Jarabacoa.

The project will launch in April, according to Public Works Minister Victor Diaz Rua. Its cost was not disclosed.

The Dominican Republic recently signed a deal for a $130 million loan on its Viadom network of toll roads.
