A United Nations Security Council delegation arrived in Port-au-Prince today to begin a four-day visit to Haiti.
The group met first Monday afternoon with Prime Minister Garry Conille. On Tuesday, they will hold talks with Haitian President Michel Martelly.
The UN delegation’s trip is occurring at the same time as a major CARICOM delegation, which includes St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony, is also in the country.
The UN’s four-day trip will look at the implementation of resolutions concerning the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti and involve talks with local government officials and civil society representatives.
The delegation will also visit a camp for displaced persons and a cholera treatment centre. In November, an organization filed a lawsuit against the UN, charging that peacekeerps from the world body brought cholera into Haiti from Nepal.
