CARICOM Chairman and Suriname President Desi Bouterse will lead members of the Bureau of Heads of Government on a two-day mission to Haiti beginning on Monday.

Joining him will be St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony, St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and CARICOM Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

Also accompanying the delegation will be Special Representative of Heads of Government to Haiti and former Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson.

The delegation will meet Haitian President Michel Martelly on the first day and with Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille and members of the Haitian cabinet on the second day, along with members of Parliament, the media and the private sector.

The purpose of the visit is to engage with the Haitian government about the nature of assistance the country needs from CARICOM.

It will also look to explore ways to strengthen Haiti’s participation in CARICOM.

Martelly recently visited with another CARICOM country, the Bahamas, last week.
