Antiguan students with learning disabilities got a boost this week from the Chinese government, which donated 390 Lenovo laptops to the country’s Ministry of Education.

The move fulfilled a promise made by Chinese Ambassador Liu Hanming a year ago.

“The laptops help eager young minds become digital natives who are more informed and engaged in their classrooms and their community,” said Education Minister Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro.

The donation supplements the country’s One Laptop Per Child programme, similar to a China-funded programme currently underway in Guyana.

“It is the young generation that will be the future of the country, and so the knowledge gained will be important to them, and the computers will be good gifts that will bring them closer to developments around the world,” Liu said.

Earlier this week, Antiguan teachers received laptops of their own through a partnership with telecom firm LIME.
