Haiti has a total of five hotels and 763 hotel rooms in the development pipeline as of the end of December, according to data from STR.

The report followed Haiti’s success in November, when it led the Caribbean in projected hotel development.

Of the 763 rooms, 220 are already under construction, and 543 are in the final planning stages. Another 100 are in the pre-planning stage, according to STR.

The total existing supply of hotel rooms in Haiti is 1,674 rooms.

Haiti’s tourism sector has begun to develop anew in the years since the earthquake, particularly in the city of Jacmel, where Miami developer Michael Capponi is building one hotel project as part of a major development plan in the city.

Another city, Milot, is also trying to position itself as a potential tourism target.
