New World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean Hasan Tuluy will begin a visit to Haiti on Wedneday, his first official visit in the region since he took office Jan. 1.

After a meeting in Washington with Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille, Tuluy will discuss Haiti’s priorities and how the bank can best continue to support the country’s goals of long-term development and reconstruction.

“This is my first official trip and it reflects the priority we give Haiti,” he said. “I am looking forward to see first hand how two years after the devastating earthquake, reconstruction is gaining momentum with tangible results on the ground.”

The World Bank said it had disbursed approximately $10 million per month since its March 2010 pledge to deliver $479 million in new funding, private sector support and debt relief.

“The World Bank Group remains fully committed to Haiti’s reconstruction and will remain engaged with significant human and financial resources,” Tuluy said.
