Civics will make a return to the Jamaican school curriculum in September, according to Education Minister Ronald Thwaites.

The subject will not just comprise “dry facts” but will emphasize the “duties of citizenship,” he said. Thwaites was speaking in the House of Representatives yesterday.

For some time, civics had been taught in Jamaica from grades seven to nine in all-age schools and in first form at high schools.

The study of civics educates students about citizenship, the structure and governance of the country, and other historical information.
