“We Have to Pledge to Clean Up Jamaica”

Jamaican Foreign Minister Sen. AJ Nicholson is lobbying for support on a major island-wide cleanup project.

The plan aims to enhance Jamaica’s position as a location for new investment, particularly from abroad.

“We haven’t taken care of the gifts that God has given us,” he said. “We have a dirty country.”

Nicholson said it was important, in contemplating a platform for development in the next 50 years, that the country be clean.

“We cannot set a platform for development for the next 50 years if our country is not clean,” he said at a Jamaica Stock Exchange conference this week.

“It cannot be that you go to the United Kingdom, or elsewhere, and ask some persons to come here and invest in our country, but when they step off the plane and drive around Jamaica, it is not so clean. We have to pledge to clean up Jamaica.”
