St Kitts and Nevis to Break Ground on Agro-Tourism Project with Taiwan

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Next week, St Kitts and Nevis will break ground on what the country hopes will be a major new part of its tourism strategy.

The country’s goal is for the Agro-Tourism Demonstration Farm Project, which will be located at Sir Gilles in St Kitts, to become a major tourism attraction in the twin-island federation.

The 20-acre farm, which will incorporate a triad of green tourism, green energy and green agriculture, had its blueprint worked out by the government of Taiwan.

Another part of the far will highlight St Kitts’ once-booming sugar industry as part of a “Sugarcane Labyrinth” in the shapes of St Kitts and Taiwan.

It will also feature a “botanical garden” featuring medicinal plants of both St Kitts and Nevis and Chinese medical herbs.

“Cruise ship passengers, stayover visitors as well as residents and our students can certainly enjoy an educational and cultural tour of this garden and other areas of this project, which will become another local tourism attraction,” said Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas.

The project comes from a cooperation plan signed by St Kitts and Taiwan.
