Guyanese Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony is leading the effort to resolve the cricketing issue in the country, looking to bring in all stakeholders to help with the newly-formed Interim Management Committee and to address criticisms surrounding its formation.

The IMC, which replaced the Guyana Cricket Board after it allegedly failed to resolve a number of issues with management and transparency, came under fire for what former GCB members viewed as their exclusion from the process.

The West Indies Cricket Board, too, questioned the formation of the IMC, but Anthony said Guyana’s courts had territorial jurisdiction and their rulings upholding the decision would have to be respected.

“The WICB is a regional body and they have to respect what the member country’s court would have ruled,” Anthony said.

According to Anthony, however, the intention was not to exclude persons — and he said he now wants everyone involved to help find a resolution.

The IMC, which has a six-month duration, is looking at a host of problems in Guyanese cricket, including reported cost overruns at various sporting facilities, and will seek to implement a cricket development programme at the national and regional levels.

The IMC is led by former West Indies and Guyanese cricketer Clive Lloyd.
