Trinidad and India have signed five new cooperation agreements on a series of fields, including air transport, culture, education, traditional medicines, agriculture and technical cooperation.

The signings came after high-level talks between Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The air transport deal could mean the eventual establishment of air links between the two countries, which will allow designated air carriers to operate flights connecting destinations in each country.

Persad-Bissessar is in India on a State Visit. The deals came after her address to a group of Indian business organizations.

In the next few days, she will visit the Kolkata Memorial Monument, from where her ancestors set sail for Trinidad and Tobago in the middle of the 19th century. She will also visit her ancestral village of Bhelupur in the Buxar district of the state of Bihar.
