CARICOM Begins Cholera Response Project in Haiti’s Cite Soleil

The Caribbean Community has begun a project to improve sanitation infrastructure and sensitize residents of Haiti’s Cite Soleil community in the practice of safe personal and community hygiene.

The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project is begin undertaken to support the country’s national strategy to fight the outbreak of cholera.

The project will improve access to 25 toilet blocks and hand-washing stations for approximately 15,000 residents, or 3,000 families in the Brooklyn section of Cite Soleil.

It comes in response to a request by the Haitian government for assistance in this area, with Cite Soleil recommended as the starting point by the designated National Water and Sanitation Agency (DINEPA) for assistance.
