Bahamian Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes has accepted letters of credence from Ernesto Soberon Guzman, the new Cuban ambassador to the Bahamas.

Guzman succeeds former Ambassador Jose Ponce Caraballo.

“You should find that the service rendered by your distinguished predecessor will stand you in good stead as you carry out your stated mission to strengthen and diversify our bilateral ties,” Foulkes said.

The Governor General noted several areas of recent cooperation between the two countries, which recently finalized their maritime border, including education and health services.

Guzman, 36, said he was pleased to be appointed. He is a former industrial engineer and is first secretary for the Office of the Deputy Minister for Asia and Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
