Donald Ramotar has won the Guyanese election, having secured 48.6 percent of the vote in the 2011 general and regional elections, according to the Guyana Elections Commission.
It is the first minority government for the country, however, as the PPP/C captured less than 50 percent of the vote.
A Partnership for National Unity won 40 percent of the vote, with the Alliance for Change taking 10.3 percent and the United Force taking 0.2 percent.
The final results were confirmed by Guyana Elections Commission CEO Gocool Boodoo at the Commission’s command centre.
The PPP/C took 166,340 votes, with 32 seats in the National Assembly. The APNU captured 26 seats and the AFC took seven.
Ramotar will succeed President Bharrat Jadgdeo, who has served for 12 years.
The results come in line with CJ’s earlier reports of the PPP/C winning the election.
