Jamaican Gordon Shirley, the principal of the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies and a former permanent representative to the OAS, is leading the body’s electoral observation mission for tomorrow’s elections in Guyana.

The OAS mission is in the country at the invitation of the Guyanese government, and has deployed some 25 international observers across the country. These teams will be in place for the election tomorrow.

The OAS noted that both major political parties and the media had adopted and signed a Code of Conduct aimed at ensuring a fair and equitable electoral process.

Professor Shirley is also Jamaica’s former ambassador to the United States.

He also has a Master’s and PhD from Harvard University.
