Following similar conferences between Caribbean nations and both China and South Korea, CARICOM presented a regional showcase this week to investors from Japan.

The CARICOM-Japan Business Seminar met in Trinidad on Tuesday, focusing on potential opportunities for Japanese investors in the energy, natural resources and Information and Communication Technology sectors.

Japanese attendees included representatives from firms Fujitsu, Hitachi and Marubeni.

Former Jamaican Prime Minister PJ Patterson made a presentation about the reconstruction of Haiti, and expressed CARICOM’s thanks for Japan’s help in the country following the earthquake.

A Japan CARICOM Economic Mission began a visit to Jamaica yesterday, including government officials and Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica Hiroshi Yamaguchi.
