Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart met with Sir Dennis Byron, new president of the Caribbean Court of Justice, in a courtesy call this week.

“The work coming out of the CCJ is of a high standard and the court can count on this country’s support,” Stuart said.

Barbados is one of three Caribbean countries, along with Guyana and Belize

Stuart, who was the former Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal, was previously the trial judge in the Maurice Bishop murder trial — the longest criminal trial in Caribbean history.

He also served as a permanent judge of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
