Trinidad “Ready” to Aid Africa on Energy

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Trinidad and Tobago stands ray to assist Africa in the development of its oil and gas industries, Trinidad Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine said in a speech at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Perth, Australia.

Trinidad is already positioning its energy exports in that direction, with approximately 22 percent of its LNG cargoes now going to Asia for a premium.

According to Ramnarine, he has issued a mandate to the National Gas Company of Trinidad to “go global,” with Africa being a central part of the NGC’s global strategy.

In the spring, then-Energy Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan announced that the NGC had been tapped by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation to supply energy for power plants in Ghana.

Trinidad leads the Caribbean in the production of oil and natural gas.
