Haitian police and United Nations Peacekeepers have completed a four-day joint operation targeting criminals in two neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince.

Operation Hope, which ended on Friday, aimed at criminals in the areas of Bel Air and Martissant.

More than 2,100 troops were deployed on the mission, mostly those from Brazil and Sri Lanka, along with 600 police officers.

MINUSTAH said the operation, which saw the apprehension of seven wanted suspects, was meant to be a deterrent against future criminal activities in the areas.

The peacekeeping force is “firmly committed to bringing stability and security to the people of Haiti, in support of the national authorities,” it said.
