Following its naming as the World’s Best Tourist Destination this week by the European Union Council on Tourism and Trade, Trinidad continued its success on the world stage, with the country’s cocoa taking a top award in Paris yesterday.

Trinidad won first prize in the “spicy” category in the “Salut du Chocolat” competition in Paris; the beans had previously won first prize in other categories in 2010 and 2009.

The Paris International International Salon du Chocolat and the Professional Chocolate Show are the world’s largest events dedicated wholly to chocolate professionals and cocoa-producing countries.

The Caribbean cocoa industry exists in nine countries, including Belize, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
