Grenada, Japan Talk Environment

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Grenada and Japan held their latest round of talks on environmental matters, with Japanese Ambassador for Civil Society Akira Yamada meeting Environment Minister Joseph Gilbert.

It was Gilbert’s first official engagement as Environment Minister following a cabinet reshuffling.

The two officials covered several issues on the environment, particularly the impact on vulnerable islands such as Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

According to Yamada, Japan, as an archipelago, faces many similar issues to Grenada, and pledged to work with the country on finding areas of convergence.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of Japan sharing renewable energy technology with Grenada’s Energy Unit.
