Grenada to Launch Insurance Institute

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Grenada will formally establish an insurance institute at the end of this month, a project aimed at providing training for professionals in the industry.

The project, which is the brainchild of the Association of Grenada Insurance Companies, follows similar institutes in islands like St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and Barbados.

“The primary function of the insurance institute of Grenada will be to assist in educating employees of the insurance industry in acquiring knowledge on various aspects of the insurance business,” said Bernard Wilson, a spokesperson for AGIC.

The institute is aimed at providing certified training in areas like underwriting, risk management and actuarial.

Wilson said some of the institute’s tutors would be from Grenada, while others would be culled from qualified personnel from around the region.
