Trinidad has suspended hunting season for the calendar year 2011-2012 due to the State of Emergency. The season would have started Oct. 1. According to Minister of Housing and Environment Dr Roodal Moonilal, the decision was taken after consultation with the Forestry Division and the Ministry’s legal department.

The measure would, Moonilal said, protect “9,000 hunters” fro criminal elements, as well as law enforcement officers.

No hunting permits will be issues, and the measure is aimed at protecting 22,000 animals.
