Grenada Looks to Infrastructure

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Grenadian Works Minister Joseph Gilbert is pushing for an increased budgetary allocation for infrastructure projects across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

“We believe these works are important investments,” he said. “They do not only bring development to the communities, but also create jobs.”

According to Gilbert, only $1.85 million was allocated for concrete works this year, a number for which he is lobbying an increase.

“We are moving step by step to ensure the necessary improvement in infrastructure to all communities in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,” he said. “All we need is time.”

Over the summer, the government announced a series of infrastructure projects, led by the first phase of Grenada’s Greater Greenville Project, which had been subject to a series of delays after an initial start date of 2008.
