Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo met Friday with the newly-appointed managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde.

The two officials spoke on the issue of climate change, and a new strategy when dealing with funds for battling climate change.

According to Jagdeo, developing countries are losing confidence in existing institutions, whose existing financing instruments were what he called “not well suited” for addressing the challenges of climate change.

He also urged Lagarde to consider debt relief for middle-income countries with specific sets of circumstances.
