The government of Turkey has moved to strengthen relations with the Caribbean Community, in an effort to deepen a “level of mutual understanding” between the two bodies and open doors to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Accordingly, CARICOM and Turkey signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at establishing a consultation and cooperation mechanism between the two parties.

The MOU also seeks cooperation in the promotion of trade, investment and tourism, along with the areas of natural disasters, commerce and scientific and technical exchange.

Turkey has had a permanent observer status in the OAS since 1998, and in the Association of Caribbean States.
