St Lucia to Install CCTV System

By the Caribbean Journal staff

The Saint Lucian police force will soon add a CCTV camera system to its arsenal, aimed at enhancing their capacity to monitor potential criminal activity on the island.

The $3 million project is part of Prime Minister Stephenson King’s crime fighting plan.

“Soon we will be introducing the CCTV cameras in the north of the island as a first phase from Castries to Gros-Islet at strategic locations to monitor criminal activities and to further equip the police with the added advantage of being able to track down criminals,” he said.

The prime minister pointed to a recent situation where the vehicle of a “prominent citizen” was stolen and in just 24 hours was stripped of all of its parts.

“With the advent of the CCTV cameras, our police will have the added ability to be able to locate, track and investigate crimes successfully in order to bring justice to those people who engage in criminal activity.”
