Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo met with new United States Ambassador to Guyana Brent Hardt to reaffirm what he called a commitment to open, candid and constructive dialogue between the two countries.

The post has been vacant for some time.

Hardt outlined his priorities to continue forging a close and productive partnership between the two countries.

He said he was focused on ongoing programmes in partnership with the government of Guyana, including the country’s dealing with HIV/AIDS, something he called a model for the rest of the region, along with a renewed focus on economic diversity, drug trafficking and counterterrorism.
