CARICOM and the United Nations met yesterday to review earlier deliberations between the two bodies on the issue of crime.

Delegations from CARICOM’s Implementation Agency for Crime and Security and the UN’s Office on Drugs and Crime expressed a desire to strengthen forensics capacity within the Caribbean, aiming to increase rates of convictions by preserving the integrity of evidence.

The two bodies also want to focus their attention on the proliferation of illegal guns in the region, which have led to escalating Caribbean homicide rates.
