Guyana and China signed an agreement today for a $4.68 million grant, the same amount agreed upon between China and Antigua on an economic cooperation deal.

Finance Minister Ashni Singh signed the agreement on behalf of Guyana, with China’s Minister of Commerce, Chen Deming, signing for his country.

Guyana is represented at the ongoing China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum by a delegation of government ministers including President Bharrat Jagdeo, along with 30 Guyanese business executives.

Jagdeo called on the Caribbean to pursue a collective, non-reciprocal trade agreement or partial scope agreement with China, similar to the one between Guyana and Brazil.
