Cayman Looks at Minimum Wage

Following the lead of Grenada, Cayman Islands lawmakers voted to support the introduction of a minimum wage of $5.83 per hour for workers in the islands. The motion to amend the country’s Labour Law was brought by MP Ezzard Miller. The amount will be reviewed every five years for possible amendment. Education Minister Rolston Angling questioned the amount, however, saying that it amounted to $800 per month, and that the “vast of majority of Caymanians and their families could not reasonably survive on [it].” [Caymanian Compass]
