The US Department of Interior has awarded the US Virgin Islands a $1.1 million grant for improving tax collection in the country.

The grant, which came from the department’s Office of Insular Affairs, will help the territory improve its tax services with new equipment, consultants and additional senior managers.

“This grant from the Department of Interior will benefit this territory by making sure our tax collection system is fairer, more efficient and more thorough,” said Governor John de Jongh, Jr in a statement.

The USVI is not the only place in the Caribbean looking to improve its tax collection. Earlier this summer, Jamaica announced a plan to instill a culture of tax compliance in the country.
