Jacmel a Bright Spot for Haitian Tourism

While Haiti has struggled to recover from the January 2010 earthquake, the tourist-centered city of Jacmel is becoming one of the country’s bright spots. “Jacmel in my view reflects the progress that has been made outside Port-au-Prince,” said Luca Dall’Oglio, head of the International Organization for Migration. One Miami nightclub promoter, Michael Capponi, has made it his mission to turn Jacmel into a tourist destination, beginning with the construction of a new hotel. “[Jacmel] is not the same thing at all,” said Frantz Jeannis, an artisan in Jacmel.
