Trinidad: 1,143 Arrests during Emergency

Trinidad has arrested 1,143 people since the declaration of a State of Emergency in the country Aug. 22, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Communications.

In the 24-hour period from Aug. 31 to Sep. 1, the Ministry said 167 arrests had been made.

Of the total number, 366 were gang related, 216 were drug related and 228 involved outstanding warrants. Another 30 were related to homicide charges.

The report also announced that Trinidad’s Coast Guard had seized a vessel with four persons aboard, including two Trinidadians, and confiscated cocaine with a street value of more than $500,000 on board.
